Why Give?

Giving is an important aspect of life. There are many reasons for giving, and many benefits beyond monetary ones.

We are all human and have the value of giving imprinted deeply in our belief systems. We give for many different reasons. Some of us give because it’s an opportunity to make a difference to another person's life. For others, giving comes from a sense of obligation to those less fortunate. We might give because it makes us feel good, because we believe that “what comes around, goes around” or to satisfy our natural instincts.

Whatever your reason for giving, the research shows that giving is good and effective giving is even better.

When we see social injustice or inequality, giving is a practical way to help restore the balance and make the world a better place. Of course, there are tax benefits too, with over 13 million Australians making tax deductible donations every year.

In contrast to the increasing impact of the global financial crisis elsewhere in the world, Western Australia's strong local economy and buoyant corporate and consumer confidence give us a unique opportunity. While we are doing well, vulnerable people, including those in regional areas, need us to respond in a timely and effective manner to their very real and present needs.

By actively engaging in a culture of giving, we can help to transform the lives of individuals, groups and even whole communities.

Giving is important, regardless of the amount you give or how you do it.
